What they say is true
I know, I know — it’s a cliché. But it’s true.
A photograph really is worth a thousand words.
Photos capture emotion. They show hope and despair, heartbreak and bliss. They provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at an event or setting they wouldn’t otherwise experience.
A photographer is just as much of a storyteller as a writer or speaker. That’s what fuels my photography — the privilege to tell a story in a visual way.
Below you’ll find photos I took as a media relations intern with Sun Devil Athletics at Arizona State University, followed by photos I took during my time at the Arizona Daily Star.
Sun Devil Athletics
ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’
The Arizona Wildcats hosted ESPN’s live broadcast of “College GameDay” three times while I worked at the Star — once for football and twice for basketball. I shot photos at all three.
Here are my best photos from those events:

• ‘Childcats’ show their UA spirit — Before Arizona’s first football game of the 2014 season, I had a fun idea to head to the fans’ tailgate and see what kinds of Wildcats gear kids had on. I called the photo gallery “Childcats,” for the children Wildcats fans.
• Families, friends divided by UA-ASU rivalry — When the Arizona Wildcats football team hosted rival Arizona State for the Territorial Cup in 2014, I had an idea to photograph families and friends divided by the rivalry.
• Fan reactions to UA’s win over ASU — Then, after the game — Arizona won 42-35 — I went to University Boulevard, a popular hangout for students, and took photos of their reaction to the win.
